Cost of Education in Portugal
The tuition fee of private higher education institutions in Portugal is higher than the public higher education institutions. The public higher education institutions determine the tuition fees but the Ministry of Education sets a minimum tuition fee that is equal to 1.3 times the minimum national wage rate. Still tuition fees in Portuguese Universities are quite low and affordable compare to other European countries. Students who are enrolled for a bachelors or masters programs are charged an average tuition fee of approximately 950 – 1250 EUR per academic year. For PhD programs, the average tuition fee amounts to approximately 2500 – 3000 EUR per academic year. The private universities can set their own tuition fees without any restriction. Their fees range between 3,300 euro and 3,900 euro per year for any degree level.
