Living in Switzerland

Living costs all over Switzerland are expensive, and managing your monthly expenses without making any compromise could be a tough challenge in Switzerland. Like many other countries, Switzerland experiences a shortage of housing in larger cities. Moderately-priced living quarters are usually difficult to find. Rents are higher than in most USA cities and vary according to location, neighborhood and type of building. The average cost of living is between 800 – 1350 Euro per month. This price will vary according to your lifestyle and the place you want to live.

Types of Accommodations:

On-Campus:

International student usually receive a subsidized price for housing on campus. The advantage of living on campus is that you will live close to college facilities as well as other students. You should apply for student housing as soon as possible since places are limited.

Private Hostel:

You will find a number of private hostels in Switzerland for foreigner students. Private hostels can be any building that is prepared by a private individual for business purposes. Private hostels provide every facility a student can possibly need including food, internet, and cleaning. Most private hostels in Switzerland will be found near a university area.

Rent Apartment:

You can find apartments in residential area, some big building or in a plaza. In an apartment  you have the liberty of selecting it according to your own need and budget. There can be one or even more rooms in one apartment. You can either share a flat of more than one room with friends or live alone.

Homestay:

You can also live in a house with a family. It is not very easy for an adult to get this type of accommodation however some people do prefer youngster. In this accommodation, they give you a room with food. It is a great way to integrate with Swiss culture and people to experience true colors of the nation.
