The GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination. There are two types of GRE such as GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. This test is administered by Education Testing Service (ETS). GRE test are taken for pursuing higher education and scholarships in top ranking educational institutes of the world.

GRE General Test:

The GRE General Test is for all students coming from different educational background. It is the most common test which is required almost all colleges and universities for admission and scholarships. The GRE General Test contains three sections such as Verbal Reasoning Section, Quantitative Reasoning section and Analytical writing section.

Two sections each with 20 questions, 30 minutes for each section. Each section includes a mix of reading comprehension question, text completion, and sentence equivalence questions. Reading comprehension questions are either single answer, multiple answers, or select in passage, while text completion questions will have one, two, or three blanks.

Each quantitative reasoning section (also common called the “Math GRE sections”) contains a mix of multiple choice, quantitative analysis, and user input questions. You will be tested on how you can interpret the data and the quantitative problems presented to you.

The writing section of the GRE is meant to measure your analytical reasoning, organization, and analysis skills. The two essays include an issue essay and an argument essay. There is no right or wrong answers to the essay questions and the essays will be read and scored by 2 (and possibly 3) readers.

GRE Subject Test:

GRE Subject Test assesses student proficiency in a specific subject. It is currently available for Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English and Psychology. It is designed to access the undergraduate learning of a student. Total time of this test is 2hr 50min and complete in one day.
