Cost of Living in USA

The cost of living in USA is quite high compared to other countries in the world. The cost of living is varying from place to place; in general, living in urban areas is more expensive than living in smaller towns or suburban areas. Knowing the average living cost in USA is an important part of your financial preparation. Living cost includes accommodation, food, clothing and transportation and will vary according to your lifestyle. As a general the average international student in USA spends nearly (USD)$1,000 to (USD)$1,800 per month.

Types of Accommodation:
On-campus:

You live on the school’s campus in a student room or student apartment. This accommodation can be more expensive, but you get to know a lot of students very fast. On-campus accommodation can be good for your first year at the school to be a part of campus life and meet other students. Meals may also be included in your on-campus accommodation.

Off-campus:

You hire a private/shared apartment outside of campus, usually for a lower price than living on-campus. The International Office at the university can usually help you with information about private apartments and where to look for them. It gives them a chance to explore the American lifestyle closely without any time deadlines.

Homestay:

Homestay is a great option for undergraduate students somewhere around 18 years of age as they get to live with an American family where you get your own room as well as meals so it is easier for the student to adapt to the new lifestyle without feeling completely homesick.

Food Cost:

A weekly grocery bill for one person is usually between (USD)$300 to (USD)$500. You can save money by buying groceries at supermarkets including Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Trader Joe’s.
