What is IELTS?
The IELTS is an abbreviation of the International English Language Testing System. It is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. There are over 3 million tests taken every year all over the world. It is design to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. The test has been designed and is jointly owned by the British Council and IDP and is accepted by over 10,000 organizations worldwide including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies.
The IELTS exam measures your skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking through two test formats, namely IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. While IELTS Academic can be taken up by those who wish to go for higher education or professional registration, IELTS General Training is for those who are looking at migrating to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. For academic and work purposes, the USA also accepts the same.
The IELTS exam is available at more than 1,100 locations worldwide and there are 48 test dates a year. In India, the registration fee for IELTS exam was (INR)₹ 12,100 in 31st Jan 2018 and will increase in every six month of period. Anyone above the age 16 years can take the IELTS test.
