Cost of Education in France
Basic standard student fees in France for the 2016-2017 academic year is 184 Euros(€) per year for undergraduates, and 256 Euros(€) per year for postgraduate Master’s courses – plus a few extras that may add on less than 100 €. Students are also eligible for subsidized student restaurants, basic but very cheap student residences (though demand well outstrips supply for rooms in residences) bus passes and discounts in many places. In addition, students from low-income backgrounds get grants; French student grants vary from just exemption from paying tuition fees, to exemption + 4370 € per year, and are means related.
Scholarship for International Students:
The Eiffel scholarship program was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a tool to allow French higher education institutions to attract the best foreign students for master’s and PhD degree programs. Eiffel scholarship-holders on Master’s courses receive an allowance of €1,181 and scholarship-holders on PhD courses receive an allowance of €1,400.
Each year, the ENS organizes an international selection allowing about thirty of the most promising international students, either in Science or in Humanities, to follow a two or three-year course at the ENS. They receive a monthly stipend of approximately 1,000 Euros for 2-3 years. About 30 foreign students are awarded each year.
